In order to ensure that every home and building is electrified - not just those owned by geeky, efficiency-obsessed owners - VoltHub foresees three major things that need to change.
- Every contractor needs to offer the electrified option
- Every home and building owner needs to be made aware of the electrified option
- Costs and benefits need to be clearly communicated
We started VoltHub because despite there being multiple startups and organizations working on decarbonizing homes and buildings, there are no others that are taking on the daunting task of convincing the non-geeky, average home and building owner (whether they care about the climate or not) to electrify. If, as a society, we don't do much to address the average owner, electrification adoption will slow. For our children and our children's children, we are not going to let that happen.
If we're going to get the average home or building owner to choose the electrified option, we need to meet them where they stand when their appliance breaks - when they research online and/or call their local contractors in an emergency. VoltHub is building the tools so those very contractors can present the efficient option in a striking, often educational way, communicating the value of replacing the appliance with a heat pump rather than the gas equivalent.
For the contractor, this often means a pricier job with more profit.
For the home/building owner, the costs may be the same or even less if you factor in rebates, tax credits and long term cost savings.
